Website and Branding Update

Image
I have updated the wheels webpage on Sarra.tv  and I have reformed the Human9 Logo. It is the intention to transfer this project to Human9.com on completion of the project as I am developing a whole new portfolio on this website. This site will include all my new AR/VR and Mixed reality projects. Any experimental developments such as code Art, periphery device prototypes and e-textile experiments will be published on Sarrahornby.com.  http://sarra.tv/wheels

Narrative and Interactive Renpy development

I wanted to experiment with the Wheels set and characters so that I can develop an interactive story using Renpy. This was a time efficient way of working on Wheels while playing with interactive narrative development. This could be further developed as an additional 'add on' app to add which will add value to the Wheels app. Wheels Intro Narrative  Just over the hill, in a deep dark wood, shines a multitude of glowing lights illuminating the way to a tiny travelling fair. Excitement is in the air, but as you stroll closer, the trees appear to bend toward you, like grasping hands they sway and swipe. The space around you  becomes so thick you begin to choke. Through the thick fog, sinister yet strangely enticing music hangs in the air. You arrive at an entrance. It’s too late to turn back and even if you wanted to, you are magnetised by the vision unfolding around you. You begin to wander in an almost hypnotic state. As you look at the strange cards surrounding...

Character Development Ring Master and Fairground Worker

Image
I am currently working through the following plural site video. https://app.pluralsight.com/player?course=designing-cast-characters-photoshop-1089&author=tim-gibson&name=designing-cast-characters-photoshop-1089-m2&clip=7&mode=live Although I have established character design and animation skills I am looking at this through the fresh eyes of a game designer. Aspects such as being able to distinguish allies or attackers from a distance and making groups look as if they belong together through design are new perspectives. The following sketches are my initial concepts but I need to work on tone, colour and detail further. Ring Master Sketches Fairground Worker Sketches I need to further work into these initial sketches, adding colour, tone, rhythm and detail. I will also check readability in the set. I will do this by creating a mock up and placing the characters within the set.

GAM720 Week 6:05 App Sketch and Adobe XD Wireframe Prototype

Image
I have researched how a number of apps structure their interaction design and I am beginning to flesh out my first sketches (Below). I have now started to create an Adobe XD Prototype so that I can test the interaction and concept at an early stage before full development. Reflection This process has helped to refine my concept. As I continue to research game play and interaction in other apps on the market I am thinking about the user profiles, the apps unique selling points and monetisation of the app. This process has helped to refine my concept. As I continue to research game play and interaction in other apps on the market I am thinking about the user profiles, the apps unique selling points and monetisation of the app.    Instead of developing Fizhogg as a stand alone App I am thinking about how I can develop this as an which contains multiple apps (paid for individually as single games but under the umbrella of Fizhogg world)...

GAM720 Week 6:04 Paper Photoshop Effects and Material Experiments

Image
The human stepping off the edge of the cliff is designed after the Mechanical Man however the pose if definitely not right (even though its accurate to the pose) so I will need to edit this. The paper cut tutorial laid down effects which emphasised an inner and outer shadow as well as a papery over effect. This didn't work as well as opaque tracing paper. From my material tests, I understand that the paper is very thin and therefore thickening it would give a grey board effect. I have decided to work on the paper shapes and just add an overlay for now as I next have to produce a wireframe prototype in XD which will form part of my proposal.

GAM720 Week 6:02 Card Material Maps (Maya) & Style Sheet Draft

Image
Card illustrations - Maya Material Maps (These will be further edited in Photoshop)  Reflection The Designs were developed directly in Adobe Photoshop Mix and Composite on the iPad Pro which were then transferred in Adobe Cloud to Photoshop on the iMac. I had conducted research in 1920's graphic design. I had attended the Tate Modern a few years ago and saw the work of Van Doesberg and the Avant Guard. I wanted to use a crisp clear yet sophisticated palette from this work. I wanted to use the circle form extensively and the software allowed me to do this very easily. I could also play with typography so that I could find the right fit. I would usually sketch extensively before going to the software however I was experimenting with a new process (maybe a quicker process) which would speed up my work flow but not be detrimental to the creative output.  The downside was that the poses of some of the characters weren't very dynamic and were a little stiff. I wou...

GAM720 Week 6:01 Character Design Notes

Example: Pixar  - Inside Out (Creativebloq) Relatability  Simple shapes to represent emotions  Sadness Joy  Anger  Fear  Disgust  Eyes Joy - starting from the heart and radiating large  Sadness - heavier at the bottom  Example : Roman Dlapa (tutorial)  Wheels (App Character Design)  Back Story Wheels was born in the 1920’s in a dark wood, deep within a temperate valley. She enjoyed her own company and would often go off into the woods to construct small models out of bracken and leaves,  on which she would train a troupe of insects to perform wonderful tricks, to entertain her. She loved to create puzzles and test the skills of the insects. This was later to grow into a travelling spectacle, a circus freak show designed to entice, entertain and mystify all who dared to enter. She dreamt of growing her troupe and expanding her circus, to be known around the world. She dreams of one da...
