Audio Logo

Image
I have been thinking about an animated logo for Sh.com for a while now and watching the examples given this week, such as the various Nintendo logos, prompted me to think about it again. This is my sarrahornby.com logo As you might be able to recognise, within this logo is a needle but also, if you look closely at the abstract white space you might be able to recognise a fish and a horn. So maybe I could animate this logo with a sewing machine sound, water splashes and horn... The activity this week asks that we animate an audiologo using sonic Pi, that communicates the following: Success Failure Requires attention Change that is irretrievable General message App opening  App closing  Sonic branding notes: THX - wake up all Apple waking up Schimorphism - trash can empty Windows open/shutdown AOL dialup sound - conversation between modems Marimba - ring tone default - range of the human voice Nokia ringtone http://sonic-pi.net/tutorial.h...

Audio Case Study

Sound design in Luminocity by State of Play Games https://youtu.be/TWavt8ZdFGM Button tap feedback - glockenspiel sound Ambient sound - crackly record player looped sound Dialogue - no spoken narrative as speech bubbles and the sound of a popping bubble are used instead. Foley sounds Crackling electric lights Lock unlocking Metal gate opening Footsteps on ladder climbing and pathway Papery sound effects Ambient music - smooth and gentle Music by Ed Critchley Sound by Alisair Lindsay The analogue foley sound effects really add to the ‘material realism’ and the handmade appeal of the app. I have been thinking a lot about how I can introduce sound in my app especially dialogue and how I might approach voice recording. I think I will use a kind of nonsens speech for the fairground worker and use subtitles/speech bubbles instead.
