Daily Scrum

We had the daily scrum on discord at 7pm via a video connection. Z couldn’t make and so we have arranged to meet again tomorrow.
  • The face to face contact was really rewarding and natural.
  • The team discussed the Internet blocker.
  • It was offered to produce the Adobe XD prototype using my Wireframe and images as it is currently difficult to this by mobile.
  • It was raised that the video could be a bit long for the show and tell Meeting on Tuesday. The length was dictated by the type and so it wont matter if its shortened as long as the presenter has time to speak. It was agreed that it will be edited down for whoever presents it.
  • It was agreed that we would continue with the spy theme with maybe different gangs (probably not the right word) but that we will revisit it near the end of this scrum. My concept was more kind of a liberation group freeing the people from an evil overlord and his cronies idea, but I’m not married to it. I’m not too keen on warfare or anything to violent but we discussed a child friendly option.
  • We talked about how the game mechanics could be retro-engineered by starting with the end mission and working backwards. This was exactly what I was thinking, focusing on presenting a simple slice as a MPV - to avoid the criticism of overscoping which seems to be a constant cricism in my projects.  I suggested focusing on the slice for the show and tell and getting the that nailed this scrum so that we can add features as we gain time. We could shift features from the backlog into the workflow as and when we can. I’m trying to avoid last minute stress by adding bells and whistles in a managed way.
  • We discussed offering missions of varying lengths which is an excellent idea as research proposes that women tend to spend time on short games rather than long ones and so this could appeal to a more diverse audience.
  • It’s been decided that we will be using Unity which is fab. It was agreed that I will run a lot of practice experiments and research concurrently with the main project. Findings from this will be fed through to the main coder and scrum master.
  • It was mentioned that the aesthetic should perhaps be set in the present and not as a futuristic world. It was agreed as it should fit into a real life environment and that the neo noir aesthetic was used only as an initial starting point due to the kind of work that’s out there. As the project gets underway and we start to see the CGI in environments, it may well change.
  • It was mentioned that we could work with a student on the MA Creative Writing course. This could inform the aesthetic as visuals can trigger a response to narrative and vice versa.
  • It was noted that a visual language emerging from the aesthetics could be used effectively in the UI. It was intentional that Red was used to represent blockers, Amber as neutral and green as access/go,  in the walk through images. I am pleased that it was read in that way by the team without being explicitly mentioned. This is a good sign.
Next, I intend to work on a Maya model and unity prototype purely to test the file transfer set up and test out the AR mission aspect of the project.

Very positive vibe!
